課程概述 |
Drama can be more than an entertainment but a window through which we look at how people manage a situation, or a predicament, or be inspired by their tears, laughs, or observations of life. This course aims to familiarize students with modern Irish dramas that feature different, possibly universal, human weaknesses, political unrest, and social symptoms since the turn of the twentieth century. |

課程目標 |
This course aims to give students an overview of the development of the Irish theatre and its social contexts. We will study dramas by playwrights in different religious, political persuasions, and of different genders, in an attempt to unveil the changing faces of Ireland in its process of political independence, cultural de-colonization, and a series of social changes. The issues to be explored include political identity, religion, gender, social problems, and individuality. This will allow us to have a balanced view of Irish culture. |

1. Group discussion and presentation.
2. Mid-term exam and a final paper.
3. Four reading journals to be posted on Ceiba.
4. Attendance.
